Flood Donation
As of January 8, 2026, the flood situation in Assam is currently stable, as the state is in the middle of the winter (dry) season. While the devastating monsoon floods of 2024 and 2025 have receded, the state is currently focused on rehabilitation, erosion control, and disaster preparedness for the upcoming 2026 monsoon.
Current Status (January 2026)
-
Weather: The region is experiencing cold winter weather and dense fog. There are no active flood alerts.
-
Erosion Crisis: Although the water levels are low, riverbank erosion remains a critical issue. Recent reports highlight the long-term displacement of communities (such as in Jonai) where homes were lost to sudden, violent erosion during previous floods.
-
Infrastructure Work: The Assam government is actively using the dry season to fortify defenses. On January 7, 2026, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid foundation stones for projects worth ₹272 crore in Lakhimpur to address chronic flood and erosion problems.
-
Preparedness: On January 3, 2026, the state inducted 40 high-speed motorized rescue boats into the Fire and Emergency Services to bolster the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for future emergencies.
